A clapboard is still in use today to help sync sound with picture and slate 
each scene.  In years past Cinematographers  used chalkboard,  then 
progressed to dry erase markers, and today we have electronic ones, with
digital time code read out, which are programmable to suit the film makers 
preference.              lights..camera...action!
